RESEARCH PAPER CONTEST

PSUOG Research Paper Contest 2026

The Research Paper Contest promotes investigative scientific research in Obstetrics and Gynecology Ultrasound.

The Research Paper Contest is open to all Fellows-in-Training in Obstetrics and Gynecology Ultrasound from PSUOG-accredited training institutions.

Specific Rules
  1. The subject matter must be relevant to the science and practice of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  2. The principal author must be a Fellow-in-Training in Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology from a PSUOG-accredited training institution.
  3. Co-author/s must also be PSUOG Fellows or Consultants of their respective training institutions.
  4. If the paper is selected for presentation, the principal author must present during the final oral presentation.
  5. Authorship credit must be based on the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors’ authorship criteria.
  6. The research paper should not have been published in full in any local or international publication.
  7. All accredited training institutions may submit completed research papers.
  8. Resubmission of a previously submitted non-winning paper is not allowed.
  9. A certification or approval form from the Institutional Review Board or accredited Technical Review Board is required, including an Anti-Plagiarism Certificate.
  10. The manuscripts shall be prejudged by the PSUOG Committee on Scientific Works. The top five papers shall be selected for oral presentation.
Guidelines on Submission
  1. Five copies of the manuscript in individual folders, together with an electronic copy in a properly labeled USB, must be submitted to the Secretariat.
  2. A separate sheet containing the title page with name, address, contact numbers, signatures of author/s, and institution must be submitted in a sealed envelope.
  3. A signed written endorsement from the Section Chief and Training Officer of the PSUOG-accredited training institution must be included.
  4. The five manuscripts and labeled USB must be submitted in a sealed envelope using a sturdy long expandable envelope.
  5. Failure to comply with the rules and guidelines may be grounds for automatic disqualification.

Research Paper Manuscript Requirements
  1. Research paper format:
    • Title
    • Abstract — not more than 500 words
    • Body: Introduction, Objectives, Methodology, Results, Discussion, Summary, Conclusion and Recommendations
    • References — Vancouver Style / NLM PubMed
    • Appendices: data collection tools, computations, additional tables and graphs, pictures, consent form, survey form, and other supporting documents
  2. Manuscript must be typewritten in English on standard 8.5 x 13-inch paper on one side only.
  3. Use Arial font size 12, double-spaced.
  4. Margins must be 1.5 inches on the left and 1 inch on the right, top, and bottom sides.
  5. Each manuscript should have a title page, abstract page, keywords, and the research paper proper.
  6. No mention of the institution name or identifying information is allowed within the manuscript or oral presentation.
  7. The use of applicable reporting guidelines for specific study designs is encouraged.
  8. The use of spelling and grammar check, word count, and thesaurus is encouraged.
  9. The use of Plagiarism Detection Software and AI Detection Software is encouraged. The score in each should ideally be less than 20%.
  10. Only standard abbreviations are acceptable. Abbreviations must be spelled out initially.
Procedure for Judging
  1. Submitted manuscripts will be prejudged by the PSUOG Subcommittee on Research Paper.
  2. The manuscripts will be assigned randomly to members of the Subcommittee.
  3. Reviewers should not be affiliated with the same institution as the author.
  4. The Subcommittee shall grade the manuscripts based on technical criteria.
  5. Grades must be submitted on or before August 22, 2026.
  6. The top five manuscripts shall be forwarded to the panel of judges no later than August 24, 2026.
  7. The Panel of Judges will evaluate both the written output and oral presentation.

Oral Presentation Proper
  1. Selected presenters shall be informed through electronic mail correspondence no later than September 1, 2026.
  2. The oral presentation will be held on October 2, 2025, Friday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN.
  3. Venue: Augusto Barcelon Auditorium, 6F Podium Building, The Medical City, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.
  4. The order of presentation will be determined by drawing of lots one hour before the start of the contest proper.
  5. Each participant will be given 8 minutes to present.
  6. A yellow light will be turned on after 6 minutes to warn the presenter that only 2 minutes remain.
  7. A red light will signal the end of the 8-minute presentation.
  8. During the open forum, each judge may ask a maximum of two questions per participant.
  9. The Chair of the Board of Judges will announce the top three winners of the contest.
Awards
  • 1st Place: ₱17,000 plus plaque
  • 2nd Place: ₱14,000 plus plaque
  • 3rd Place: ₱11,000 plus plaque
  • Consolation Prize: ₱4,000

Certificates of Participation shall be awarded to all presenters, duly signed by the President of PSUOG, Chair of the Committee on Scientific Works, and Chair of the Subcommittee on Interesting Case Contest.
