INTERESTING CASE CONTEST

PSUOG Interesting Case Contest 2026

The Interesting Case Contest aims to promote interesting case paper writing and presentation in the application of Ultrasound in the practice of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

This contest is open to all Fellows-in-Training in Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology from PSUOG-accredited training institutions.

Specific Rules
  1. The subject matter must be relevant to the science and practice of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
  2. The principal author must be a Fellow-in-Training in Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology from a PSUOG-accredited training institution.
  3. Co-author/s must also be PSUOG Fellows or Consultants of their respective training institutions.
  4. If selected for presentation, the principal author must present during the final oral presentation.
  5. Authorship credit must be based on the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors’ authorship criteria.
  6. The interesting case paper should not have been published in full in any local or international publication.
  7. Each training institution is required to submit at least one interesting case report for the contest.
  8. Resubmission of a previously submitted non-winning paper is not allowed.
  9. The manuscripts shall be prejudged by the PSUOG Committee on Scientific Works. The top five papers shall be selected for oral presentation.
Guidelines on Submission
  1. Five copies of the manuscript in individual folders, together with an electronic copy in a properly labeled USB, must be submitted to the Secretariat.
  2. A separate sheet containing the title page with name, address, contact numbers, signature/s of author/s and institution must be submitted in a sealed envelope.
  3. A signed written endorsement from the Section Chief and Training Officer of the PSUOG-accredited training institution must be included.
  4. The five manuscripts and labeled USB must be submitted in a sealed envelope using a sturdy long expandable envelope.
  5. Failure to comply with the rules and guidelines may be grounds for automatic disqualification.

Interesting Case Report Manuscript Requirements
  1. Case report format:
    • Title
    • Abstract — 250 words and MeSH headings for keywords from the NLM MeSH list
    • Case Report: Introduction, Case Discussion, Summary / Conclusion
    • References — Vancouver Style / NLM PubMed
    • Appendices: properly labeled tables, illustrations, figures, and pictures
  2. Manuscript must be written entirely in English.
  3. Use Arial font size 12 on A4 Substance 20 white bond paper, one side only.
  4. Use double spacing with 1.5-inch left margin and 1-inch right, top, and bottom margins.
  5. The use of the CARE Checklist when writing a case report is encouraged.
  6. The use of spelling and grammar check, word count, and thesaurus is encouraged.
  7. Plagiarism Detection Software and AI Detection Software are encouraged. The score in each should ideally be less than 20%.
  8. Only standard abbreviations are acceptable. Abbreviations must be spelled out initially.
  9. Do not embed tables and figures within the body of the manuscript. Place them in the appendix.
  10. Photographs must have identifying marks cropped or covered with an eye bar. Resolution must be at least 200 dpi.
  11. No institution name or identifying information is allowed within the manuscript or oral presentation.
  12. Failure to preserve anonymity may be grounds for automatic disqualification.
Procedure for Judging
  1. Submitted manuscripts will be prejudged by the PSUOG Subcommittee on Interesting Case Paper.
  2. The manuscripts will be assigned randomly to members of the Subcommittee.
  3. Reviewers selected should not be affiliated with the same institution as the author.
  4. Subcommittee members shall grade the manuscripts based on technical criteria.
  5. Grades must be submitted on or before August 22, 2026.
  6. The top five manuscripts shall be forwarded to the panel of judges no later than August 24, 2026.
  7. The Panel of Judges will evaluate both the written output and oral presentation.

Oral Presentation Proper
  1. Selected presenters shall be informed through electronic mail correspondence no later than September 1, 2026.
  2. The oral presentation will be held on October 2, 2025, Friday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN.
  3. Venue: Augusto Barcelon Auditorium, 6F Podium Building, The Medical City, Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City.
  4. The order of presentation will be determined by drawing of lots one hour before the start of the contest proper.
  5. Each participant will be given 8 minutes to present.
  6. A yellow light will be turned on after 6 minutes to warn the presenter that only 2 minutes remain.
  7. A red light will signal the end of the 8-minute presentation.
  8. During the open forum, each judge may ask a maximum of two questions per participant.
  9. The Chair of the Board of Judges will announce the top three winners of the contest.
Awards
  • 1st Place: ₱12,000 plus plaque
  • 2nd Place: ₱10,000 plus plaque
  • 3rd Place: ₱8,000 plus plaque
  • Consolation Prize: ₱3,000

Certificates of Participation shall be awarded to all presenters, duly signed by the President of PSUOG, Chair of the Committee on Scientific Works, and Chair of the Subcommittee on Interesting Case Contest.
